PREFERRED TERM

volatile organic compounds number concentration

DEFINITION

  • Number concentration means number of molecule per unit volume, and is used in the construction molecular_concentration_of_X_in_Y, where X is a material constituent of Y. A chemical species denoted by X may be described by a single term such as 'nitrogen' or a phrase such as 'nox_expressed_as_nitrogen'. Volatile organic compounds are organics that have a high vapour pressure at room temperature. Using this group variable is discouraged in favour of reporting concentrations of individual VOC species.
