tapered element oscillating microbalance
DEFINITION
- Device measuring the mass concentration of aerosol particles in a sample as a function of time. The sample is led through a glass tube which is equipped with a filter where the particles are deposited. The glass tube is set into vibration. While the filter in the tube is being loaded with particles, the vibration frequency of the tube changes, allowing to deduce the particle mass deposited as a function of time. Together with the measured sample flow, the particle mass concentration can be calculated.
