PREFERRED TERM
reactive nitrogen oxides number concentration
DEFINITION
- Number concentration means number of molecule per unit volume, and is used in the construction molecular_concentration_of_X_in_Y, where X is a material constituent of Y. A chemical species denoted by X may be described by a single term such as 'nitrogen' or a phrase such as 'nox_expressed_as_nitrogen'. Reactive nitrogen oxides (NOy) includes nitrogen oxides (NOx) and other nitrogen-containing compounds that can be oxidized to form nitrogen oxides, e.g., nitric acid (HNO3), nitrates (NO3-), and nitrous acid (HNO2).
