DEFINITION

Deposition is the sum of dry deposition (uptake at the earth's surface) and wet deposition (absorption into droplets followed by droplet precipitation, e.g., rain, snow, sleet) or impaction on the earth's surface (e.g., fog droplets). The chemical formula for 2,2′,4,4′,5,6′-hexabromodiphenyl ether is C12H4Br6O. It belongs to the group of persitent organic pollutants (POPs) known as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). The IUPAC name is 1,2,4-tribromo-5-(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)benzene.
